New command

As the ball is done the new command is going strong. CDT Col Bradley Cookson has taken command of the Warrior Battalion. To his side is CDT Maj Stephine Thomas as Battalion XO, and CDT CSM Laura Craig as the Battalion CSM. As the school year comes closer to the end the Battalion is on the move. Next week the Corps takes on two Major task. The Srine circus which starts Friday and will last through the weekend. Then you have a team going for a national championship these cadet are: CDT Col Audrey Sylvester, CDT CSM Matthew Thompson, CDT Maj Stephine Thomas, CDT CSM Laura Craig wish them well. For all who got new jobs and promoted congratulation, go Warriors.

Off and Running

As the year is under way, so is the JROTC. The Batalion is 78 strong with over 30 LET 1′s.The first fundraiser has started with scratch tickets. Al uniforms are isued and the dril team is working hard for the first event at Hermon High on 17 Oct. And the National Color Guard has started to raise funds for another try at being the best in the Nation in Daytona Beach in May of next year.

Lets go Color Guard

Well here we go. The National Color Guard will host a BBQ chicken dinner on the 7th of Aug. 2009. The event will be held at the Newport American Legion Hall from 4PM till 7PM. Cost is $5.00 a Plate. Also a big bake sale will be going on at the same time same place. All funds will go towards helping the National Color Guard on the quest for a National Title in Daytona Fl. next May.

Summer Camp

What a time at camp. 9 cadets left on the 21 June to Camp Johnson, Vt. . A great time was had by all. The cadets from Nokomis led the way in all areas. Proving this Cadet Maj. Audrey Sylvester was ranked number two, with the award of Commandant award winner. Cadet Maj Nicole Pedone was ranked number 3 with the winning of the Esprit a Corps award. Other cadets that received awards was Cadet SSG Cody Thompson for the best in rope bridge, and best platoon. But now we move on for Corrina days the cadets from the JROTC received high praise for all of the work for the town. It was stated that the day would not have happened if not for the cadets. Next comes Summer fest on the 18 of July, and again cadets are in charge of the day, come by and enjoy the day. Please check out the photos on the page with more to come, from a proud 1SG.

The Nationals

Cadets took off to Daytona Beach, Florida on a quest for a National Championship on April 30, 2009. After a hard fight with over 40 teams in our Division they placed 24th in the nation. Better luck next year. Cadets that competed were, Dominic McKim, Maygan Meagher, Nicole Pedone, and Audrey Sylvester.

The Big Night

The night was April 17, 2009. As the night came and went many awards were given out. But the night went to the cadets who were promoted to lead the corps next year.

As the outgoing Commander Dominic McKim was promoted to Cadet COL. among some of the awards received by Cdt McKim, Cadet of the year, Veterans Leadership Bowl, and the Superior Cadet Award. Dominic leaves for training in the United States Army on the 31st of August this year. We wish him well.

Cdt LTC Maygan Meagher has assumed the position of Battalion Commander.

Cdt CSM Matthew Thompson assumed the position of Command Sergeant Major.

Cdt MAJ Nicole Pedone assumed the position of Battalion XO.

Cdt MAJ Audrey Sylvester assumed the position of Battalion S-3, plans and operations.

Cdt CPT Christopher Dow assumed the position of Bravo company Commander.

Cdt CPT Laura Craig assumed the position as Alpha company Commander.

Cash Calender Update

As the first week ends for the fund raiser I wanted you to know that $800.00 has been raised. This is great work by all, but I must say the greatest work has been done by Cdt Greenwood at $275.00, and $200.00 by Cdt Layfield. I ask that all try to sell the five calenders you have and lets make this a great fund raiser. Thanks

New Year

As the new year starts, I would like to take this time to thank all of you for the hard work you have done in the past 4 months. But things will not slow down in the up coming year. We will have the Raider team preparing to start with the upcoming competition’s. Along with the Battalion formation which will happen on 15 Jan. 2009 at 2:30 in the afternoon in the gym.

I also found out today that we will be working the circus on 24,25, and 26 April. As all of you know it is alot of hard work and we will need at least 30 Cadets per day.

The National Color Guard are also in preparation for the National competition in May 2009. So, as you can see their is a lot of work to be done. But, the first thing will be the cash calender sale. This only requires each cadet to sell 5 for $5.oo. The good part is everyone who buys on has a chance of winning $700.00. After you win, your name goes back in for the rest of the month. So good luck on the fund raiser.

One happy day

On December 27, 2008 the Senior Army Instructor was married. the setting was in a small church built in 1836. The room was filled with many friends and family from all over Maine, and Hawaii. After 8 years of courtship the rings were passed and a new family was born. We of the corps and Nokomis wish the happy couple all of the best in the years to come. Corps members 1Sg Mckim best man, Cdt Col Dominic Mckim, Cdt Maj Maygan Meagher,Cdt CSM Danniel Shaefer, and Cdt 1Lt Nicole Pedone.
