Extra-Curricular Teams

There are four JROTC varsity teams at Nokomis Regional High:

RAIDER PHYSICAL FITNESS/ADVENTURE TRAINING
DRILL TEAM INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM PRECISION/ARMED AND UNARMED
AIR RIFLE TEAM RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP
COLOR/HONOR GUARD FLAG DETAILS, SABER TEAM, AND ESCORTS

Eligibility

Cadet may not have any failing grades, or poor citizenship within the school or town.

Cadets can not receive a detention or suspension. This is grounds to remove you from the team.

Color Guard / Honor Guard Team

The color guard is required to carry the National, State, and Unit Flags as well as weapons, when posting the colors at various events, e.g. basketball games, and with the band. The Color Guard drill-down tryout is open to all cadets who are interested, and the top performers are chosen from those who apply. Attitude, appearance, and the ability to march are the basic determining factors.

Color Guard members wear White berets and cords.

The Honor Guard is selected from the Corps of cadets and comprises two seven-person units. They are required to be excellent in all areas, and excel at Drill & Ceremony. Their personal appearance standard must be impeccable.

They are utilized for “Special” events where high visibility is expected. They are trained in additional areas, such as Saber usage and Arches. They are known as the keepers of the colors and will raise and lower the colors each day of school in full uniform as one of their duties.

As with all teams cadets cannot be failing any classes, or have more then 50 demerits within a quarter.

The Honor Guard wears Red Berets and Maroon and Gold cords.

Raiders

The Raider Team is one of four varsity letter sports in JROTC. This team practices all year for one major Competition “The Raider Challenge.”

The number of members on the team is unlimited. However, only the top nine-team go to the Raider Challenge.
The Raider Challenge is comprised of four events, which run from 6:00 AM to about 4:00 pm on one Saturday. The Raider Team competes against other Teams from the New England area.

On the Raider Team you will learn what it feels like to work as a team. You will also push yourself to become better than you ever have been.

The four events in the Raider Challenge are:

  • APFT (individual effort)
  • Sit-ups
  • Push-ups
  • Two-Mile Run
  • One Rope Bridge Competition
  • Land Navigation
  • Five K (Kilometer) Run

As with all teams cadets cannot be failing any classes, or have more then 50 demerits within a quarter.

Drill Team

You will learn every aspect of Drill & Ceremony with and without a rifle. You will participate in various competitions during the school year, usually held on weekends. This will lead to a trip to “The All Army Drill Competition”. This consists of precision movements with the rifle and Drill & Ceremony. Only the strongest competitors will be selected for this elite unit
The Drill Team is comprised of 20 to 24 cadets. Tryouts for the Drill Team are open to all cadets in good standing. During the second or third weeks of September, tryouts begin. If selected you are required to attend mandatory daily practice sessions. Two or three times a week.

As with all teams cadets cannot be failing any classes, or have more then 50 demerits within a quarter.

Air Rifle Team

Team members are made up of cadets who are chosen after elimination rounds that produce the top
Shooters. All cadets are authorized to apply for Air Rifle Team at the beginning of each year.

There is 1-cadet team selected. The Air Rifle Team Commander commands the team. Meeting each week for various practices and match shootings. Matches are held against local JROTC schools. Cadets perform precision shooting from the standing, prone, and kneeling positions.
